A post

Well, Wednesdays are my days off, so I thought I would write a little post for you guys. It is, after all, on my to-do list.

Gosh, I have been enjoying myself so far. For example, last night, Dustin and I invited about six freshmen guys over for dinner. We hung out for a while, played a little Apples-to-Apples, and then I drove over to the Rec Center and played racketball with three of my friends. This is my job.

The downside, however, is that I have to plan this enormous undertaking--our camping trip, which is scheduled for this weekend. I am not at all a details guy, and especially when trying to plan a camping trip for a constantly changing list of about 60 people. I have to find tents for them, sleeping bags, rides, among other things. It is pretty stressful.

But once that is done, things should lighten up a bit, and I can really concentrate on my favorite parts of this job--reading the Bible with non-Christians.

I have no witty asides today.

I would like to say that I am enjoying getting to know Caitlin better.

Also, my roommates are a lot of fun.

Several Aspects of My Relationship Which are Perhaps Unique

1. She and I have a mutual friend named Brad, an EDGEcorp teammate of mine. We both like Brad a lot, and today she was driving in a car with him. I told her to tell Brad that he was cool. Which she did. Then, without thinking too deeply, I told her "Tell Brad that if he was a girl I would dump you and date him." It occurred to me that some girls might find this offensive. Caitlin, however, found it funny.

2. The evolution of what I call her...
A) Kale
B) Kevin McHale
C) Kevin
For some reason, Caitlin actually enjoys being nicknamed Kevin.

3. It is real real laid back.

Ok, cool. By the way, I am enjoying David's posts. Pretty sweet stuff, brother. We should talk sometime soon.

Oh, I have never got my wisdom teeth removed. I do not agree with Jane that they are necessarily there for a purpose. And I know several people who have gotten them removed with good reason. And I think our dentist here in town is good.

I have a rigorous tooth cleaning regimen. First, I floss, between every tooth. Then, I brush thoroughly, for at least three minutes. Then, I rinse out my mouth with generic Listerine, aka, antiseptic mouth wash.

David Cracks Me Up

I love the haiku comments.

Work as a Navigator is good thus far, but the running really starts tomorrow when the freshman start to move in. This is the most crucial time of the year... See my prayer blog for more information.

My main responsibility so far has been to buy candy for a candy jar to guess at our table at the mall. I had to count them all to. I won't tell you how many there were.

Anyways, later fellas.

New Work

is pleasing.

Work is God's gift. John Baille says to pray for the unemployed, "who know not the joy of diligent labor."

In fact, all things are God's gifts. Remember Denise Levertov, who says, "The world is not with us enough." Meaning that the world is not impressed on us in constant awareness, what the Puritans called the discipline of watchfulness. It is found in Paul's exhortation to "pray continuously, with all kinds of prayers and petitions."

And what people to share my labors with!

An example, for David

You never enjoy the world aright, till you see how a sand exhibiteth the wisdom and power of God: And prize in everything the service which they do you, by manifesting His glory and goodness to your soul, far more than the visible beauty on their surface, or the material services they can do your body. Wine by its moisture quencheth my thirst, whether I consider it or no: but to see it flowing from His love who gave it unto man, quencheth the thirst even of the Holy Angels.

Love has a marvelous property of feeling in another. It can enjoy in another, as well as enjoy Him. Love is an infinite treasure to its object, and its object is so to it. God is Love, and you are His object. You are created to be His Love; and He is yours. He is happy in you, when you are happy: as parents in their children.

Wants are the bands and cements between God and us. Had we not wanted we could never have been obliged. Whereas now we are infinitely obliged, because we want infinitely. From Eternity it was requisite that we should want. We could never else have enjoyed anything: Our own wants are treasures. And if want be a treasure, sure everything is so.

Thomas Traherne

I have discovered a beautiful book during my afore-mentioned trip to Bookman's. It is called Centuries, or alternately, Centuries of Meditations.

The "centuries" refers to the fact that there are small paragraphs of thoughts in groups of 100.

This is beautiful stuff, and how dare we read modern books, shallow and full of vanities, before we read these ancient beauties.
